Tinted Day Cream - KORA Organics by Miranda Kerr - Swatches & Review

Tinted moisturisers are usually tricky to get right.  Quite often they are only in a universal shade and so that in itself throws up a lot of problems getting a colour match that's true to you.  Whenever I'd used tinted moisturisers in the past (I'm talking like over ten years ago before the whole BB/CC cream rebranding!) they had an awful finish, they'd either dry down too fast so they looked streaky, or they wouldn't dry down at all so your face would be super shiny!
I'm a pale gal, so I approached the Kora Tinted Day Cream with caution, but with swatches I'd seen from other bloggers, although the colour looked quite dark, it appeared as if it could sheer out quite nicely.

You get a fair amount of product at 50ml.

It contains a natural sunscreen in the form of zinc oxide, although the packaging doesn't indicate the levels, on the Kora website the protection is described as approximately factor 15.

Each Kora product features a positive word :)

The expiry date is clearly printed.
It's worth pointing out that as these products are organic, it is important to observe the expiry dates more carefully, as the ingredients are only active and fresh for so long.

Hmm, it's quite dark!

Trying to blend out.

Sheering out, you can see how it's beginning to streak.

Sadly, this tinted day cream is similar to others that I've used in that it dries down very fast.  This wouldn't be a problem application wise if the colour fit me, but as the colour is so dark, I had to take my time applying it to specific areas.  When I applied it all over, I looked like I'd applied fake tan.

The dry down was a lot more matte than I had expected and it had a very pleasant finish.

When I tried the tapping/patting technique demonstrated by Miranda Kerr in her instructional video, as the cream dried down so quickly my face looked patchy.

Adding the tinted cream to your moisturiser of choice is also recommended, though I found that I had way too much product on my face then, though it was the best option for getting a better colour for me.

I also tried mixing this with my Liz Earle Sheer Skin Tint in 01 Bare, though as that has a thick consistency to begin with, by the time I'd mixed the colour up, it was so stiff that it immediately streaked on my skin :(

As you can see next to the Liz Earle Bare Tint, the colour of the Kora tinted day cream is way too dark for me.

I experimented with different applications for a couple of days, and although the colour matching and application was a bit of a disaster, I have to say that my skin felt amazing, really soft and with greater clarity too!
I could have carried on using it in very small amounts with my moisturiser, though as that wouldn't give me the amount of coverage I'd be happy with, I figured that'd be kind of pointless.  So I ended up giving it to my Mum, who wears more of a medium colour in foundations and tan.

So if you have at least a medium skin tone, or wear fake tan, I do highly recommend this, but if you're a pale beauty, this will probably require way too much work.

Overall, a really good product, hopefully Kora finds a way to make a tinted day cream that's in a lighter shade :)

I recommend you check out the FAQ section of http://www.KORAOrganics.com/  for further info.

EDIT: I have found that I can get a good colour by mixing the Tinted Day Cream with Mac Face & Body Foundation in White.  As the F&B has a very thin consistency, it doesn't stiffen the tinted day cream further.  I usually put one part day cream to two parts white.  I have to apply the mixture with a brush like a foundation and with no primer or moisturiser underneath, or it will streak.  It's a shame as I like the look it gives but I can only do this by mixing the colours on the back of my hand, as I don't think a pre-mixed tub of the cream and F&B would keep well.  Hopefully one day I can get my hands on some Kora day cream and see how well the tinted cream mixes with it for myself :)
