The post I did back in March on my search for the perfect pale foundation to cover my increasingly acneic skin, which resulted in my purchase of Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, was one of the blog's most popular with good reason, as it's the number one selling foundation in the UK.
I followed this post In April with some musings on my skin problems as a whole in Acne and Eczema Skin Problems: Sod's Law where it's worth noting that I had some problems with the foundation immediately, as it caused a strange outbreak of spots along my jawline. After ensuring I was doubly cleansing at night to remove all traces of the foundation, the problem seemed to solve itself.
Although I don't like the full coverage foundation look, I was glad to finally have a makeup that properly conceealed my spots. So impressed with the longevity of the foundation, I decided to buy more Lauder products in May, including the Idealist Pore Minimizer Skin Refinisher and Double Wear Brush-On Glow BB Highlighter.
Moving on and into July, I was becoming concerned with my skins increasing sensitivity. My spot were becoming more cyst like, with inflammation over most of my face and even my eyes. I remember relying heavily on Liz Earle's Eyebright for relief. I was going to MCM Comic Con in Manchester, (cosplaying as Daenerys Targaryen!) and I worried how my face would cope with a full face of costume makeup. I needed even more coverage, so hurried to Boots for more Liz Earle Eyebright and to pick up the last word in concealers: Double Wear Stay-In-Place Flawless Wear Concealer SPF 10, phew! After I'd applied the Double Wear foundation and concealer, you couldn't have seen a mark or freckle on me, but I figured at least my spots were covered? I contiuned using all of my Estee Lauder base products as well as a sample of the Clear Difference Serum I had been given, hoping that I'd find the perfect combo of coverage by playing around with different applications.
So the day before Comic Con I'd managed to grow a spot on my eye bag, which swelled my whole eye. I travelled into Manchester free of makeup, as my eyes were watering like crazy and my skin was just to painful to mess with. When my sister saw me she said I looked like I'd been punched in the face, as by this point my eye bag was turning purple. When it came to applying my skincare and makeup on the morning of the Con, here's what I used:
- Liz Earle Eyebright
- Clinique Anti-blemish Solutions Clarifying Lotion
- Clinique All About Eyes Eye Cream
- Estee Lauder Clear Difference Serum
- MAC Lightful Moisturizer SPF 30
- Clinique Anti-blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel
- Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Flawless Wear Concealer SPF 10
- Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup SPF 10
- Estee Lauder Double Wear Brush-On Glow BB Highlighter
- MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural
- Guerlian Meteorites Pressed Powder
At the end of the very long day out in the heat of Manchester City and the expo centre, it was time to take off my makeup. When I did, I was totally unprepared for what I saw had happened to my face. Along my jawline were huge heavily infected cysts, bigger than any spots I'd ever had in my lifetime.
I thought that the concealer had really not agreed with my spots, though looking at the long list of products I'd used that morning, how could I be sure? Or it could have been a different product I'd used in the days before, or a certain combination of products perhaps?
I didn't know, so like all modern hypochondriacs, I sought guidance from the Internet...
